Update from a VIA Student in Myanmar!

March 18, 2016

Iris Bercovitz is working in Myanmar through Volunteers in Asia's Global Community Fellowship

A recent graduate of the Elliott School, Iris now serves as a fellow and teaches English to adult students at Inle Lake Heritage Vocational School. There, she has actually been able to meet a famous face! Bono, who is a very big supporter of the Burmese human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, visited Iris's school while touring Myanmar.

As a part of her fellowship, Iris made a cute video with her students practicing their English by talking about what "friendship" means to them, which you can watch by clicking the photo above

Iris has enjoyed her experience with VIA so much that she is going to be a second year fellow at a school in Chiang Mai, Thailand where she will be working with Burmese refugees. Iris encourages GWU students interested in the VIA programs to reach out to her with any questions at irisb@gwmail.gwu.edu.
