Sigelman Undergraduate Research Enhancement (SURE) Awards

Thanks to a generous endowment from GWU professors Carol and Lee Sigelman, George Washington University is pleased to offer research enhancement grants of up to $500 available to GW undergraduate students to promote and provide support for their research experiences.

The GW SURE Awards are available to support the scientific, scholarly, and artistic activities of students in all undergraduate programs at GWU (including the humanities, the arts, science and engineering, business, and public health). They include (but are not limited to) the purchase of equipment or supplies necessary for a research project; support of conference presentation through coverage of registration or associated travel costs; support of travel to libraries or archives; and videography costs associated with the documentation of performances.

Eligibility

Students can be enrolled in any school of the university and must be freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Research activities must be completed prior to graduation. Students must also secure the support of a GW faculty member.

Deadlines

The deadline for spring 2013 has been extended!

  • Deadline Extended: Friday, February 1, 2013, for projects undertaken during the spring, summer and fall of 2013.

Announcements of awards will be made February 24, 2013 for the second round.

Application

Application includes:

  1. Student Application Form,
  2. Faculty Support Form, and
  3. Unofficial GW Transcript (no web-based transcripts please).

Selection Process

A committee of faculty from diverse fields will evaluate the applications.

Awards

Consisting of up to $500, the awards may be used for a variety of purposes, and it is obligation of the student to explain in the application the relation of the proposed purpose of the award to his or her previous scientific, scholarly, and artistic endeavors.

Evaluation

Each recipient must submit a report explaining how the funds were used as well describing any outcomes this award made possible.
